The US FDA does not currently offer a specific definition of a functional food. However, the widely used description offered by the U.S. Institute of Medicine states that a functional food is one that “may provide a health benefit beyond the traditional nutrients it contains” (U.S. Institute of Medicine, J. ADA 1995).

Isabella’s Functional Muffins are designed to offer specific health benefits to the consumer. Our three varieties are Activate, Optimize, and Revitalize.

Activate – a probiotic raisin bran muffin containing GanedenBC30 that is designed to optimize digestive tract function.
